T.W.A.T. - Blood, Sweat and Teargas
A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the warm-up EP from T.W.A.T. and here is now their album 'Blood, Sweat and Teargas'. If I was a lazy son of a bitch, I could simply say that the album is an extension of the EP, without being wrong. It's more of the same and if the same is good, there's no problems found.
And actually, T.W.A.T. delivers an interesting Old School EBM album and lately, interesting ones of them are seldom found. The best part of it all is that they try to mix up the regular Old School EBM Melody and Base 1.0 to something fresh and new, highly appreciated and actually necessary in this day and age. "Conformity" and "Run the Cameras" are proper examples.
Still, what would have been even nicer is if they where able to incorporate more Oi in their Old School, to me, it's more of angry and political Old School and I kind of miss the playfulness and actually happy undertone you find in some tracks by The 4 Skins for example. However, "Choke" touches the feeling I am looking for and there's still enough working class hero in this to go around the table.
Machineries of Joy has made a good decision and if T.W.A.T. get the room to grow, I'm sure that they will spread their roots and draw energy from mosh pit crowds. "Lazy Fuckers", "Conformity", "Run the Cameras", "Working Class" and the amazing "Choke" are solid proof of that. I guess I have to eat my disbelieving words in my article of their live performance. Suits me well. Jul 10 2011
