Naked Violence // Aerobicide Electro-Industrial DISTRUSTER This review was commissioned. However, it bears no weight on the score or decision. All reviews are written from an unbiased standpoint. After a full-length album on Phage Tapes titled “World War Zero”, San Francisco based artist DISTRUSTER has gone independent in releasing his last two singles. The former titled ‘Satanic Synchonicity’ was released in May of 2023 whilst their latest single, and the subject of this very article, has released on July 7th, 2023. Naked Violence // Aerobicide - Single by DISTRUSTERThis electro-industrial moniker brings out the golden age of electro-industrial with constant sample mixing and manipulation and general electronic fuckery. There’s an understanding of beat focused industrial underneath it all, however, crafting a song that sounds as if it was cut and slashed multiple times before being made into a Frankenstein’s monster whilst being functional. The vocals are shouted but not overbearing, digitized but not to a point of frustration; like the sample mixing and synth work, it’s manipulated but not overdone. In fact, put together in a whole package, it’s hard not to appreciate how well all these raw elements and vocal strains pair with the crisp beat beneath. The Bandcamp version of the single also contains a bonus track, that of which is a remix or “Shemix” of Shemale’s song ‘Aerobicide’. This originally released on “Beyond The North Wind” on Bunker Records in 2007. I’m not sure what the original sounds like as I didn’t have the time to look into it, but this Shemix sounds rather rad. The doom and gloom tones of the song remind me of something that would play around Halloween, while the backing ambiance (groans or moans?) continues down that spooky threshold. It’s worth mentioning that there is a music video out for ‘Naked Violence’ currently on YouTube. Though I’m not quite sure how the site has yet to flag the video for inappropriate content. Nonetheless, it’s a softcore, pornographic film directed by SAMHEL (A Baroque House Productions) featuring blood-soaked leather clad people in ski masks sexually touching one another and making out. A rather PG approach to a music video for SAMHEL considering that others feature full nudity and uncensored acts. Pornhub is better for this type of material but, hey, everyone gets off differently. I've been writing for Brutal Resonance since November of 2012 and now serve as the editor-in-chief. I love the dark electronic underground and usually have too much to listen to at once but I love it. I am also an editor at Aggressive Deprivation, a digital/physical magazine since March of 2016. I support the scene as much as I can from my humble laptop.
