The seventies and eighties are chock full of influential artists – and that seems to be why so many electronic musicians pull from that oh so talented pool. Australian synthpop act Suburban Spell are no different, as they describe themselves as “instrumental exploration of modern electronica through the lenses of Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre with edges of shoegaze guitar pop”. Quite a mouthful, to be sure, but a statement that’s proven as soon as you hit the play button on any of their songs. An analog montage of old-school with the crisp production of modern music rides through each of their songs, like a bullet train to the past. This train makes a stop at the Brutal Resonance train station as we’ve the exclusive premiere of Suburban Spell’s forthcoming EP “Falling Down”. No more words; check it out below:

Suburban Spell · Falling Down

Suburban Spell brings forth singles such as ‘Natural Science’ on “Falling Down”, which targets doubters when heavy, scientific evidence is presented before them without having the knowledge to argue against it. Flat earthers, anyone? Peter Endall, who previously presented himself within Schizo Scherzo in Melbourne’s 80s scene, is the solo producer behind Suburban Spell. Kraftwerk, The Cars, Gary Numan, New Order, so on and so forth – you name’em, they’ve influenced him. “Falling Down” will be out on June 23rd and can be purchased / streamed HERE. Suburban Spell also has a couple of videos out, of which 'Natural Science' can be streamed directly below. And if you're still hankering for more Suburban Spell, you can stream 'Bright Gold Cross' HERE

I've been writing for Brutal Resonance since November of 2012 and now serve as the editor-in-chief. I love the dark electronic underground and usually have too much to listen to at once but I love it. I am also an editor at Aggressive Deprivation, a digital/physical magazine since March of 2016. I support the scene as much as I can from my humble laptop.
