Beholder EP Harsh EBM, Dark Electro Cynical Existence Fredrik Croona's (founder of Project Rotten / and former vocalist of Menschdefekt) solo project Cynical Existence releases this EP off the back of the February '12 full length album Come Out And Play. 'Beholder' is six tracks that total about half an hour of listening. Harsh EBM / Aggrotech are the main style throughout the EP with the last track "Wake Up Call" sounding a bit more goth in its style. The high/low pitched guttural vocals grate on my nerves after the first track though. Which is a shame for me as I love the soundtrack under the vocals. Strong beats, rolling basslines, loops and melodies. The second track "Mardröm" has simple but beautiful strings running through it while the tracks while "Hail To The King Baby" and "The Beginning Of The End" have the classic deep bass and high melodies. "Draining Me feat Freaky Mind" and "Wake Up Call" finish off the EP with the first being a slower track with some different sounds and the latter being a more gothic sounding track. All up, I'm not a fan of this EP. I listened to it five times while writing this review and I couldn't get into it. I truly wanted to but the vocals irritated me. That's not to say this EP is bad, just not my style. Within the genre it's targeted at, it will work well. Alfa Matrix released this EP in May 2013 and claims it is a teaser for an upcoming fill length entitled 'Erase, Evolve and Rebuild'. There is nothing that stands out as remarkable about this EP, but it is a great taster for the fans of this style and for those that are, should keep them interested in Cynical Existence til the full length release. 350

I've been DJing for 30+ years and been lucky to have done Dj support for Assemblage 23, Grendel, Nachtmahr, Shiv-r, Psyche, Icon Of Coil, among others. As Digital Anodyne I've written and remixed, Retrogramme, Leaether Strip, Rational Youth, Psyche, Pluvio, Arkyus and so forth. I'm a music fan of electronic music with a thirst to hear new music as often as possible. Writing for Brutal Resonance for the last 5 years gives me the opportunity to share that passion. music//DJ\\remix
