0110 - Our Time Is Running Out
Latvian musician 0110 has been involved in the scene for a little bit of time now, but most of their music has been that of covers or remixes. Their first release as shown on Bandcamp was a suite of remixes they did for Enter the Witches and Herr Nox. This was followed up by both a regular and extended edition of 'The Chronicles of Samus: Vol. 1' which contains a cover of the musical themes from the NES and SNES classic games Metroid and Super Metroid. A bit out of character, 0110 did an improvised drone piece earlier this year. However, they returned to their electronic roots with their most recent single, 'Our Time Is Running Out'.
This little release contains three songs in total. The first is a piano ballad titled 'Our Time Is Running Out (Timelessness)'. As the artist describes, this track is also that basis for the title song. The piece is okay, if not a bit basic for a piano ballad. There are strings from a violin played in the background, and there's a bit of an echo to the whole shindig. If you go into this expecting the next 'Moonlight Sonata', you're going to be disappointed.
The second track is where 0110 shines; it's an all out electro occasion. It starts with trickling electronic notes, as if it were raining. A bassline builds up, sounding as if it's coming from some underground club. Around the fifty-six second mark the main bulk of the song reveals itself. It's a simple dance rhythm with a decent kick. 0110 gives the song some extra spice when, nearing the three-minute mark, dance synths come into play and give the song a dancefloor tune. While 'Our Time Is Running Out' won't break the internet, it's a fun little diversion.
The final track on the EP is a continuous mix of both 'Our Time Is Running Out (Timelessness)' and 'Our Time Is Running Out'. Any opinions I had above remain the same.
0110's debut single then is one that shows potential more than anything else. While the first track is an alright stab at a piano ballad, I can't help but feel that 0110 is just tapping into their potential. It needs something much more grand to stand out in the face of so many other piano solos. The second track is a fun dancefloor tune, but it also doesn't have much unique flavor that would make it stand out in a sea of electronic material. However, with further refinement and study, I think 0110 will continue to grow. For that, I give this release a six out of ten.

info@brutalresonance.comI've been writing for Brutal Resonance since November of 2012 and now serve as the editor-in-chief. I love the dark electronic underground and usually have too much to listen to at once but I love it. I am also an editor at Aggressive Deprivation, a digital/physical magazine since March of 2016. I support the scene as much as I can from my humble laptop.
