REFUTATION OF ALL HERESIES Industrial, Synth-punk ANGER 奰 This review was commissioned. However, it bears no weight on the score or decision. All reviews are written from an unbiased standpoint. A slow rhythmic thumping with vocal samples and an eerie synthetic backdrop serves as the opening for ANGER’s full-length album “REFUTATION OF ALL HERESIES”. This lead dissolves into quick, punk-riddled synthetic design as the title track ‘Heresies’ rolls in. Vocals somewhat akin to what I’ve heard in aggrotech but not quite as fucked to the point of obscurity; as if a cyborg is screaming into a mic during a meltdown. This blast of rage lasts for two-minutes and twenty-four seconds, a well-time ending point before the track became repetitious. REFUTATION OF ALL HERESIES by ANGER 奰‘The Purge’ sees ANGER collaborate with Hexen Prozess for additional synth work. The result is similar to the previous track with less rage, and vocals that would fit right at home in a black metal album. The result is a video game-y sounding beat that I could easily see being paired with a title on a Sega Genesis. Though I will admit that this track carries more of a demo sound quality to it than the previous two; perhaps that’s due to the lack of a solid bassline; not everything sounds as full as it should. Many of my previous comments hold true as ‘Massacra (Hellhammer)’ and ‘The Nightmare Continues (Discharge)’ run through. The synthpunk elements maintain a large elements while the violent vocals continue to kick-in with an incomplete feel. Though, I should say that this incompleteness seems to be done on purpose rather than through a lack of knowledge or craftsmanship. The final track on the album ‘Acedia’ is an outro track that begins without much sound for the first twenty seconds or so but doesn’t do much more than provide your standard ambient ending. ANGER’s “REFUTATION OF ALL HERESIES” is something that is sparking brilliance but lacking behind in a few key areas. The demo quality that flows out of it doesn’t do it any favors, but the sound design can be intriguing. At the best of times, ANGER shows a knack for creating synthpunk tracks like nothing as seen on the title song. At the worst, it sounds like a song is incomplete. But I can see this act growing in due time.   350

I've been writing for Brutal Resonance since November of 2012 and now serve as the editor-in-chief. I love the dark electronic underground and usually have too much to listen to at once but I love it. I am also an editor at Aggressive Deprivation, a digital/physical magazine since March of 2016. I support the scene as much as I can from my humble laptop.
