Lakeshore Records has released The Rise of the Synths, an album compiling the two companion EPs for the upcoming documentary of the same name. The Rise of the Synths is a documentary exploring the synthwave scene from its digital grass root movement, to the internet and social networks that promoted it. The creators of the film  interviewed both favorite and newer producers within the scene who helped shape the genre. With songs from Giorgio Moroder, Raney Shockne, Com Truise, Carpenter Brut, Dance With The Dead, Mega Drive, and more this documentary will relive glorious moments from the scene's history.

Assembling this album has been an absolute thrill. I fell in love with electronic music in the early 1980s through the film scores of Tangerine Dream and Girgio Moroder. I continued to be a fan of electronic music through the 90s and the 00s. During those years, the scene felt like a underground niche, so it was exciting to see composers and fans begin to embrace the sound in the late 00s - and to see it finally break into a more mainstream awareness with the release of the Drive Soundtrack. Here we are now with the release of the Stranger Things score, and the genre has grown even more - becoming even more mainstream and gaining a new name in the process: “Synthwave.” My favorite part about assembling this album was meeting all of the artists and seeing how genuinely interested they are about the origins of electronic music and how incredibly eager they are to chart new territory. -John H. Bergin, Music Supervisor

I've been writing for Brutal Resonance since November of 2012 and now serve as the editor-in-chief. I love the dark electronic underground and usually have too much to listen to at once but I love it. I am also an editor at Aggressive Deprivation, a digital/physical magazine since March of 2016. I support the scene as much as I can from my humble laptop.
