The household name Skinny Puppy has been covered by dozens of bands in countless of fashions although namely in the vein of either a similar industrial or dark electronic fashion. Everybody loves the project and for good reason; they helped pioneer experimental electronic music and pushed the boundaries further than anyone could have imagined. From the myriad of other electronic projects in the world to even some heavier acts across continents, the project has become a respected household name.

The next band to tackle Skinny Puppy in formidable fashion is the relatively new and melancholic synthpop project Lying On Ice. Consisting of Jesse Maddox and Angela Cross, Lying On Ice sounds as if experimental synthpop was the soundtrack to a happy and all too real dream. Floating on these clouds, this project has offered their own touch on one of my favorite Skinny Puppy songs of all time 'Smothered Hope'. A swirling and lavish song that's every bit as complex as its counterpart, the cover breathes life to a much beloved classic. You can stream the single directly below:

This cover will be available on Lying On Ice's upcoming album "The Dream" due out on October 12th, 2018. Skinny Puppy veteran Dave "Rave" Ogilvie has served as mixer and producer on the album while Edward Ka-Spel of The Legendary Pink Dots lent his vocals to the album.

I've been writing for Brutal Resonance since November of 2012 and now serve as the editor-in-chief. I love the dark electronic underground and usually have too much to listen to at once but I love it. I am also an editor at Aggressive Deprivation, a digital/physical magazine since March of 2016. I support the scene as much as I can from my humble laptop.
